The Keekorok Lodge
Keekorok Lodge was one of the first lodges built in the Masai Mara
National Reserve; located in the very heart of Masai Land. Keekorok
meaning 'motley abundance' in the local Masai language, was constructed
in 1962 on a beautiful eighty acre site surrounded by permanent springs
and lush grassland, where during the migration the lodge is enveloped by
a mass of animals. The recently refurbished lodge offers the highest
standard on luxury and comfort, yet maintaining it's rustic 40 plus
years of charm, history and character.
Accommodation at Keekorok Lodge:
Keekorok Lodge is made up of 89 double rooms, 9 superior rooms and 4
suites. The double roo ms comprise of stone built bungalows, single
storey blocks and comfortable shaded chalets, all of which feature
private bathroom facilities, mosquito nets and balconies and terraces
offering views over the Masai Mara and the lush gardens. The Superior
rooms have interconnecting doors making them ideal for families and the
suites are considerably larger.
Bars and Restaurants at Keekorok Lodge:
The Hippo Pool Bar is connected to the lodge by a 1km long wooden board
walk which meanders through Keekorok Forest. The Hippo Pool Bar
overlooks a permanent watering hole which is home to 20 Hippos and is
visited regularly by Elephants and Lions.
The Discovery Bar features a photo gallery of its vast history and
clientele; where you will find a fine selection of brandies, whiskies
and cigars, along with freshly ground Kenyan Coffee.
The Restaurant overlooks the internal rock garden on one side and the
beautifully manicured lawns, the restaurant serves a variety of
traditional local delicacies, Asian and Western food. Guests also have
the option to dine al fresco on the restaurants veranda, or for that
special meal why not try the Elephant Deck overlooking the wilderness
and rolling savannah and dine in complete privacy.
The Swimming Pool Bar serves a selection of soft and alcoholic drinks
and snacks are available throughout the day.
Facilities at Keekorok Lodge:
The pool area which is shaded by flowering stubs is the perfect place to
relax after game drives. The lodge also provides some evening
entertainment, such as traditional dances performed by local Masai
Warriors, a TV Lounge a Wildlife film is also shown on alternative
nights. |
